As the government focuses on housing, medical, water and nutritional needs of the displaced people, basic necessities such as undergarments, footwear, pillows and clothing are in short supply. The One Sri Lanka Foundation received an urgent request for women’s undergarments from the physicians on site. The One Sri Lanka Board approved the purchase and a shipment of 12,000 pieces was sent, with another 18,000 pieces to follow soon after.
It was a huge effort and with the help of many volunteers, the garments were separated by sizes and packed into boxes.
The boxes were put onto trucks already loaded with water tanks, clothes and food that had been collected by the Brandix Company. Brandix’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager accompanied the shipment and after getting all the clearances was able to hand our lot to the doctors.
